June 1927 the Ryhill and Havercroft Joint Miners Welfare Fund paid £800 to the Commissioners for Crown Lands for some 9 acres of land on which the Rycroft Leisure Centre stands today.
June 1952 the North Eastern Division of the National Coal Board became responsible for the grounds.
June 1967 the land and property transferred to the joint ownership of Ryhill and Havercroft Parish Councils.
November 1999 new Sports Centre opened.
January 2009 new Youth Centre opened.
July 2014 Rycroft Leisure CIO established to manage the Sports and Youth Centres.
Objectives
- The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for indoor and out door sports.
- To help young people from Havercroft and Ryhill and the surrounding area through leisure time activities to develop and grow as individuals and members of society.
- To promote facilities for community leisure time activities in the interests of social welfare.
Rycroft Sports Centre provides a wide range of activities including: football, rugby, cricket, bowls, badminton, assisted cycling, majorettes, slimming club, karate and fitness suite.
The social/bar area is open seven days a week and hosts a weekly luncheon club, children’s parties, and gatherings for all occasions.
Rycroft Youth Centre provides recreation, social interaction, education and support for young people. It is open three evening a week and also undertakes detached work in the community.
